Xiaomi launches Mi Box streaming media player in US; cost $69

On Monday, Chinese device manufacturer Xiaomi announced the launch of its first product for the US market --- the Mi Box streaming media player.

The Xiaomi Mi Box is a 4K Ultra HD streaming media player, which incorporates Google Android TV for streaming content via a vast number of apps. The device is basically an Android TV-powered set-top box which comes with 4K and HDR streaming capability, and boasts built-in Google Voice Search and Google Cast.

In announcing the launch of the Mi Box streaming media player in the US on Monday, October 3, Xiaomi said that the device is available for purchase, with immediate effect, on Mi.com; and, in a few days, will also be available through Walmart stores or Walmart.com. The cost of the device is $69.

Some of the key specifications of the Mi Box streaming media player include a 2.0GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU; Mali 450 GPU; 2GB of RAM; and 8GB of eMMC flash storage. The device runs Android TV 6.0; and its connectivity options comprise ports for HDMI, USB, and SPDIF out.

For wireless connectivity, the Mi Box streaming media player comes with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band WiFi 2.4GHz and 5GHz, as well as Bluetooth 4.0. In addition, the device also includes Dolby Digital Plus and DTS Surround Sound to offer a cinema-like listening experience.
