Automakers sign MoU to create highest-powered charging network in Europe
In a recent announcement, a few bigwig automakers have revealed that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for building the highest-powered charging network in Europe.
The automakers that have signed the MoU include BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche.
The key objective behind the move is to enable long-range travel for battery electric vehicle drivers by building up a substantial number of high-powered charging stations in a short span of time. The move marks a noteworthy advance towards facilitating an increased adoption of battery electric vehicles.
The ultra-fast charging network which the automakers plan to create will be based on Combined Charging System standard technology; and will boast the capability to offer power levels up to 350 kilowatt. As such, the projected network will be considerably faster than the most powerful charging systems which have been currently deployed.
The buildup of the ultra-fast charging network is planned to commence in 2017; with a projected initial target of deploying high-powered charging points at approximately 400 sites in Europe.
